When Family Comes Home...

12/2/2025

The holidays have a way of bringing everyone back to one place—siblings flying in, grandparents staying a little longer, cousins crowding around the same table again. It’s one of the few times all year when the people we love most are actually here, together, in the same room.

That kind of togetherness is rare. And it’s worth remembering.

Scheduling a family portrait while everyone is in town is more than checking something off a list—it’s giving your family a moment you can hold onto long after the suitcases are packed and the house gets quiet again. It’s capturing the laughter that only happens when the whole crew is together. It’s including the relatives we don’t see as often, giving them a place in the story your family will look back on for years.

Picture
These are the images that become the ones we treasure—the ones that end up on walls, in albums, and in the hands of future generations who will be grateful you paused to preserve this moment in time.

If your family is gathering this season, consider setting aside just a little time to create something lasting. A family portrait is more than a photo—it’s a memory you can keep close, no matter how far everyone travels.

I offer family sessions in the warmth of the studio or I can come to you. Need ideas for locations? I can help! Click here to schedule a consultation!

What Won't I Edit From Your Photos?

10/17/2025

If you are of a certain age, you may remember Glamour Shots, the mall studio that shot very soft, highly stylized and edited portraits of many ladies of a certain age (not judging--did them myself!) They were fun but we definitely did not look like our authentic selves--not that we were looking to look like our authentic selves either. It was a bit of fun fantasy but were not photos that stood the test of time.

When I am photographing my clients, I want you to look at your images and see YOU! So, here is a brief list of what I will and won't edit in your portraits!
Picture
Things I WON’T edit out:
  • Scars (unless you ask)
  • Moles/birthmarks
  • Freckles
  • Your body shape or size

Picture
Things I WILL edit out:
  • Blemishes
  • Hair flyaways
  • Background distractions
  • Clothing wrinkles

Picture
You are YOU and your portraits should reflect that: your authentic expressions & gestures–the things that make you who YOU are.

Experience Matters: Why 30+ Years Behind the Camera Makes a Difference

9/9/2025

Thirty years, thousands of portraits, and one lesson I’ve learned: experience shows.

When my daughter recently said to me, “Mom, this is your niche,” it really made me pause. She’s right. In a world where many photographers are just starting their businesses, what sets me apart is my experience.

For over 30 years, I’ve been photographing everything from equine shows across the Midwest to high school seniors here at home. Alongside that, I’ve spent decades coaching and teaching, which has taught me how to connect with teens, ease nerves, and build real relationships.

This unique combination has shaped my photography into more than just pictures—it’s become a style. One built on:
  • Knowledge & use of lighting that ensures portraits look polished in any environment

  • Authentic connections that help seniors feel confident and natural in front of the camera

  • Dependability that gives families peace of mind throughout the process

Photography trends come and go, but one thing stays the same: experience shows. And that’s exactly what I bring to every session.

Fall sessions are filling up--are you ready to tell your story?

Because Childhood Doesn’t Wait—Turn Memories Into Art.

8/25/2025

Family moments don’t stay small for long—kids grow, life changes, and those everyday smiles turn into memories faster than we realize. Investing in wall art from your family session means pressing pause on this season of life and turning it into something you can see and feel every single day. When you walk past those portraits, they don’t just decorate your walls—they remind you of love, connection, and the story your family is writing together.

For a modern take on the timeless wall portrait, metal prints are a beautiful choice. With their vibrant colors, sleek finish, and heirloom quality, they elevate your images into artwork that feels as fresh and bold as the memories themselves. Unlike digital files that get tucked away, wall art lives with you—brightening your home and bringing a smile each time you pass by. These aren’t just pictures; they’re your family’s legacy, made to last for generations.

🍂 Fall is the perfect season to create these lasting memories—rich colors, cozy vibes, and time together before the busy holidays. My fall sessions are booking now, and spots are limited. Let’s create wall art your family will treasure for years to come.

Photographer Editing Styles Explained: Find the Right Fit for Your Senior Photos

7/24/2025

Picture
When choosing a photographer, one of the most important things to consider is their editing style. Every photographer has a unique way of processing images—some lean dark and moody, while others are bold and vibrant, or soft and light. There’s no right or wrong style; what matters most is finding a look that speaks to you. A consistent editing style across a photographer’s portfolio shows professionalism and gives you a clear idea of what to expect. If one image is dark and dramatic and the next is bright and airy, it can be hard to know what your final gallery will actually look like.

My editing style is bright, clean, and timeless. I aim for images that feel fresh today and still look beautiful ten or twenty years from now. I want my clients to look back on their senior portraits and still love them just as much as the day they were taken—not feel like they’re stuck in a trend that didn’t last. Choosing a photographer whose style aligns with your vision ensures your images will feel true to you, both now and for years to come. If this sounds like your style, I’d love to connect.

August is filling up fast–I only have a few open dates left! September dates are available as well. Let’s create senior portraits that feel like you—now and always!

Why I Don’t Sell RAW Images (And Why You Don’t Want Them Anyway)

7/16/2025

If you’ve ever wondered why photographers don’t typically sell RAW images, you’re not alone—and I’m glad you’re asking. RAW files are the unprocessed version of a photo—straight out of the camera, untouched and unedited. Think of them as the digital equivalent of a film negative. They’re full of potential, but they aren’t ready to be printed, shared, or framed.

As a professional photographer, I believe every image I deliver should reflect not only the person in front of the camera but also the full experience of the session. That includes careful color correction, lighting adjustments, and natural retouching that brings out the best in each photo—without making you look airbrushed or unnatural.
Picture
Picture
The side-by-side example here shows the difference. The original (RAW) image is beautiful, but it lacks the polished finish you expect from professional portraits. The final image has richer colors, warmer tones, and soft but purposeful retouching. It’s vibrant, true to the moment, and ready to be printed and loved for years to come.

When you book a session with me, you're not just investing in a quick snapshot—you're investing in a finished product crafted with care. Every image you receive has been carefully refined so it reflects not only how you looked in the moment, but how it felt.

Your senior photos are a once-in-a-lifetime moment—make sure you’re choosing the right photographer!

4/22/2025

Hey there! If you're starting your search for a senior photographer, I want to help you avoid some common pitfalls. So today, I’m sharing 5 warning signs to watch out for when looking for and booking your senior session.

  • First up: limited examples of past work. If a photographer doesn’t have a solid portfolio—or you’re only seeing one or two images—be cautious. You want to see consistency and variety to know they can deliver great results in different locations, lighting, and poses.
  • Number two: inconsistent editing or style. Does one image look super warm and bright and another super cool and moody? That inconsistency means you can’t really predict what your final gallery will look like. A professional photographer should have a clear, consistent style.
Picture
  • Next: prices that seem too good to be true. Photography is an investment—and if someone’s charging way below the average, chances are they’re cutting corners somewhere. Maybe it’s experience, equipment, or editing—but you might not get the quality you’re hoping for.
  • Red flag number four: no contract. A good photographer will always use a contract to protect both you and them. It lays out what’s included, when you’ll get your photos, and what happens if someone needs to reschedule. If there’s no contract—definitely be wary!
  • And last: inconsistent or bad communication. If they take forever to respond, miss details, or don’t make you feel confident—trust your gut. You deserve someone who is organized, reliable, and makes you feel comfortable throughout the entire process.

Booking your senior session should be fun and exciting—and knowing what to look out for can save you a lot of stress later. Want to know what it’s like to work with me? Let’s chat!
